Lee Miller: [Handing a knife to a girl she had just saved from rape] Next time, cut it. The end credits feature some explanation of “what happened”; and some of Lee’s original photographs, often along with those recreated for the film. I tried my luck with two films that I knew almost nothing about today.
Especially towards the end of the film
“Strange Darling” was fantastic and original, then I saw “Lee.” It has another good lead performance and is a good historical film. But it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. This is really Kate Winslet’s show here, and she’s good.
The story is good too
We get to the meat of the film after a first half that contains a bit of filler. There are just a few questionable attempts to spice things up a bit, because it’s a simple story. Romance isn’t the story here, so you can wait until you get to the parts that are more focused on the main WWII plot.
Overall, it’s a good film
There’s just nothing about it that pushes it to become great.
